The sky is different today,

But strangely familiar.

It had hung in there throughout the seasons,

The past twelve months had passed in a little longer than a blink of an eye.

Now it has a different story to tell.

The winter had been harsh.

When it stretched its hands to feel the snow,

Which reminded it of the stars once adorning it in the night,

It sent cold shivers that broke its spine.

The one which it thought to be its very own,

Hurt it more than a stranger ever could.

Then came the fleeting warmth of the summer.

The very moment it took solace in the gentle touch of the sunshine,

The blazing heat took it away,

Leaving the hands empty and outstretched once more,

Burning its heart more than the cold shivers going down its spine again.

It let its heart burn.

And when it couldn’t burn any longer it broke away into a million pieces,

Falling onto the earth as drops of rain.

When it rained, the world believed the sky smiled,

But all this while it was letting its heart out,

In a hope to find solace, by quenching the thirst of others.

In a hope to fix itself together,

It sent breeze layered with the sweet scent of spring to collect its broken pieces.

But the breeze came back not with the pieces but with yellow autumn leaves.

And the sky realised that in order to bloom,

It had to let the pieces which it could fight and find no more go

Just like the trees.

It knew that the winters would be no less harsh,

Summers would be no fewer wildfires,

And rains with no fewer storms.

But it would hang in there like it has been doing since the beginning of time,

Burning only to show light but not to get charred,

Raining not to drown in itself but to let the world bask in its boundless compassion,

And smiling even while letting go.

The sky is different today,

But familiar like always.

Like you,

It had hung in there throughout the seasons,

While the past twelve months had passed in a little longer than a blink of an eye.

It is a new year,

It is a new dawn,

And like you,

Now it has a different story to tell.
