Andy Murray has been voted as BBC’s Sports Person Of The Year.Murray won with 56% of total votes cast.

Many were expecting Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon 2013. However, Andy Murray (regarded as Britain’s greatest tennis player since Fred Perry) won the singles title and many people’s hearts who voted him BBC sports personality of the year. That was his eighth attempt to win the title after reaching the semi-finals three consecutive times. He also became the first Briton to win the title in 77 years.

“I can’t believe it to be honest,” he said. “This is a really prestigious award. Just to be nominated is brilliant and I feel really privileged” said the 26 year old Scot.

He won the prestigious award by beating the likes of Wales and British & Irish Lions rugby union player Leigh Halfpenny, jockey AP McCoy who were second and third. The total breakdown of the votes is as follows:
