Social media has become a battleground for candidates to forward their political ambitions, treating it like a popularity contest rather than a medium of open communication that it is for us common people, but we can’t seem to complain 🙂 .

Whether it is Indian political parties like AAP,BJP and Congress, campaigning through portals of Facebook and Twitter or American President Barack  Obama with his tweets to keep his people in the know.

While we can certainly hope that our government after it is formed will not abandon the social sites, but keep us citizens well aware of the progress or setbacks we face as a country, there is definitely a chance that they might embarrass us in the future like U.S. president did to them, with Obama taking a selfie at Nelson Mandela’s Funeral.

With that forgiven, but certainly not forgotten, Obama certainly seems miffed, by the fact that Ellen’s Oscar Awards stunt had broken his record on number of re-tweets on the social networking site(all in good humor) .

He even dropped in to talk to Ellen on her talk show, where he talks about a lot of things among which is how he feels lonely in the White House with his dogs, while his family members are in China, and how he and Michelle would get matching tattoos if ever their children get one, take a family photo and post it on twitter (our sympathies go out to his daughters 😉 ).

Ellen breaches the topic of her twitter victory, by saying-

“I don’t know if you know this, but I was aiming to break your record of retweets, and I apologize for doing it, but I broke your retweet record.”

And the POTUS with his good sense of humor replying-

“I heard about that. I thought it was a pretty cheap stunt myself,” Obama quipped. “Getting a bunch of celebrities in the background, you feeding them pizza.”

We might as well have some fun :)

We might as well have some fun 🙂

I can’t wait to see such stand off’s in Indian politics with us breaking this recently set re-tweet record-after all when will  the Indian population  show its strength in numbers? (all in good time).
