I guess that this decade even in its “infancy”, has seen its fair share of flashmobs in places like parks, airports, workplaces(Infosys among others),shopping malls and even amid traffic jams and recently our own K.M.I.T. 🙂 (rarely, but even in prisons!).

The momentum does not seem to die down, with celebrations of republic day, holi and world cup taking place mid-air at 35,000 feet.

So,what is the big deal if SpiceJet decided to spice-up their in flight entertainment with some song and dance? We generally don’t see the harm in merrymaking, what with other major airlines adopting a similar strategy.

It is quite a feat indeed,to choreograph and execute the entire event from making sure that there are extra cabin crew to the coloured pom-poms. 😉

FLIGHTS OF FANCY ?!

FLIGHTS OF FANCY ?!

The passengers certainly seemed very elated and amused to celebrate holi in this unique way.

So,did SpiceJet deserve the ire of DGCA?

While dancing in the flight was not a violation, the pilot coming out of the cockpit certainly was,as in case of an emergency his presence would have been required inside. Many airlines have such performances”

-Aviation safety expert.

The airline said it hasn’t violated any rules.

The air safety circular on manning of cockpit was not violated even though the co-pilot had stepped out’,said a person in the know of the development at the airline. “We had also carried five extra cabin crew on the flights for the Holi performance, so we did take adequate measures to prepare for such a performance.”

SpiceJet also said what it did was nothing new in the airline industry.

Assuming a situation where a terrorist hijacks the plane,he would certainly be bewildered for,in order to blend in, he would have to shake a leg,a thought that puts a fear in the hearts of many, regardless of the intensive training he would have received. 😉

Yet, DGCA’s concern for passenger safety was valid for this stunt of 2.5 minutes, with beautiful, tall and dusky air-hostesses with their ‘thumkas’,might send some elderly gentlemen into cardiac arrest. 😀

The DGCA certainly seems to be wondering,”Who let the pilots out? Who?Who?Who?Who?”. 🙂
