One of the most anticipated news in the technology now is the candidate for the Microsoft CEO post. Held by Steve Ballmer since 1980, the next Chief Executive Officer is expected to surpass Ballmer in terms of expertise, strategy and innovation, while competing against Microsoft’s toughest competitors Apple, Google and Amazon.

The recently updated shortlist of CEO candidates shows Steve Mollenkopf, Alan Mullaly and Satya Nadella as the front runners.

, aged 44, he is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Qualcomm processors- the leading chipmaker for mobiles. He is one of the strongest candidates, taking in picture Microsoft’s determined venture into the smartphone world. An expertise in wireless technology, a much required aspect for smartphones and tablets, makes this candidate a strong lead in the hunt for the new CEO.

Alan Mullaly

Another candidate for this post is the CEO of Ford, Alan Mullaly. Best known for his strategic skills, Mullaly has proved not once but twice, with Boeing and Ford that he can maneuver an underperforming company.Ford has seen a lift in its sales, stocks and other parameters with tactics such as simplifying its brands under Mullaly’s reign- Jaguar, Volvo, Aston Martin being the best examples. Less proficiency in computer technology makes him now a fading candidate.

Satya Nadella

The next plausible candidate is Satya Nadella. Working in Microsoft since 1992, he is responsible for the company’s shift into cloud computing. President of servers and tools, his interests lie in being able to access smart technology all over the world. Considered due to innovative his abilities, Nadella is an “inside guy”, who knows how to take up new fields and make it a success. Within the total 6% increase in the company’s growth, Nadella’s sector saw a 100% growth in the same amount of time.

What Microsoft is exactly searching for the post is a mix of expertise, strategic skills and visionary innovation, to be decided until the end of this year or until June 2014.
