Every year, we witness new inventions and innovations that make the world a better and smarter place to live. Likewise, 2017 has been a great year for creative heads in terms of bringing their ideas into being. In this article, I present to you, some top-notch inventions that could change the face of the world.

  1. Tethys

Gitanjali Rao, an 11 year old girl, won the 2017 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge and was awarded the title of’America’s Top Young Scientist’ for her invention-Tethys. It is a device that is used to test lead contamination in water. After the water crisis in Flint (Michigan), in which 12 people died of Legionnaires’ disease due to drinking contaminated water, Rao decided to look for a solution. Tethys can cheaply, quickly and easily detect the presence of lead in water. It is currently the only handheld device capable of providing an analysis practically immediately. Thanks to her project, which is capable of saving lives. You can have a detailed look at her invention described by Rao herself, in this video –

  1. eSight 3

This is another complete breakthrough technology that provide visually impaired the sight of vision without any surgery. These electronic glasses record high definition video and uses magnification, contrast and proprietary algorithms to enhance that imagery into something the legally blind can see, helping them to engage in daily activities including sports. The inspiration comes from his two sisters who are legally blind. The founder thought to himself, “If I can assemble teams of engineers who can build incredible products for the commercial market, why not assemble an engineering team that can build electronic glasses that would let my sisters see?” eSight is truly a game changer for people with low vision.

3.Apple iPhone X

When it comes to technical inventions, how can we not talk about the world’s best smartphone? Time Magazine has named the iPhone X as one of the ’25 Best Inventions of 2017,’ calling Apple’s flagship mobile device ‘arguably the world’s most sophisticated smartphone’ over its new display, its augmented reality applications, and the inclusion of Face ID. The iPhone X is the first smartphone to combine a number of popular features, along with bringing Face ID, the first of its kind facial unlock system. Apparently, the decision to ditch the Home button on the iPhone X worked in their favor, according to Time Magazine, as that meant innovating new ways to help users navigate the user interface. The iPhone X has marked several firsts for Apple’s smartphone besides being the first without a home button. It’s also the first iPhone with an OLED screen, to cost $999, making it just as expensive as a MacBook Air.

4. GreenWave 3D Ocean Farm

GreenWave, a Connecticut non-profit, has developed a revolutionary floating farm that actually regenerates our oceans while providing jobs and protein-rich, self-sufficient food. The vertical aquaculture farm yields bountiful crops of shellfish and seaweed – species specifically selected to absorb greenhouse gas and filter out harmful chemicals. it actually restores ocean ecosystems by sequestering carbon and fixing excess nitrogen. The GreenWave system was also honored with the 2017 INDEX: Award.

5.JUST water

What makes any celebrity more admirable and alluring? To me, it is their involvement in social causes and using their stardom to make world a better place. Just like Jaden Smith, the multi-talented entertainment influencer. In early May, the star revealed his key role in an environmental initiative and business venture called JUST Water. The bottles are all made out of paper and plant-based plastic. The company seeks to decrease the level of greenhouse gas emissions through production. You can recycle the bottles anywhere carton recycling is available. My ultimate goal, says Jaden, is to move through the entire spectrum of consumer goods and eliminate plastic, one product at a time.

These are just few of those inventions that could change the world’s future upside down.
